"Got a token??" or "Better go get the phone"

How to deal with tattling!

*One teacher hands her kids two tokens a week. Each token allows the kids to tattle but they must forfeit a token.

I was worried that you'd have 25 students with each two tokens... that is 50 tattles a week. But what I was told was that students use their tokens up really fast, and then later when they come to you and start to tattle you can interrupt and say.. "Do you have a token?, oh.... no. Sorry."

'And then of course when they tattle you don't do anything about it. Just let them get it out. And respond by saying, "Thank you for letting me know"

I hear they quit tattling pretty fast once they learn they can only tattle twice they want to keep their tokens for when they really need it. Then it gets to the point where they quit tattling.

* There is one teacher who keeps an old telephone in her room. It stays out so students can access it. When she hears a student about to tattle (you know that look) she interrupts and says "Ohp..... You better go get the phone and tell it because I don't listen to tattles!"
