Class Name Chart

I notice my first graders writing about their friends a lot. They'll write a friendly letter to a classmate, or maybe include their name in a story. While this sounds like a good thing it gets very distracting when kids are up out of their seats or yelling across the room "HOW DO YOU SPELL YOUR NAME?!!!!"

I find it is helpful to have a name anchor chart available somewhere on the wall for the students to look at.

If you do it as a class within the first days of school the students will take ownership of it and use it more often.
